Sad Day in History.
http://justcallmema.tumblr.com/post/1104181605
there are no words to say how amazing and sad this picture is.
I remember watching them go down. I just happened to be on a trip with my family and woke up to my brother and mother watching what I thought was a movie.
Turns out it was reality. A very grim reality. A reality I wish was a dream.
All I could hear was my mom saying, "Oh my god.. Oh my god."
My heart goes out to those families.
P.S.A.
Today i'm here to say something that's had me in a rut for a few days..

You know.. There's this thing called religion.
It comes in many forms.
Usually they are here to fill a void in the human condition to satisfy a want of need.
Whether It be love, relief, happiness, or knowledge.
There's a religion called Christianity.
You've heard of it i'm sure. Especially if you're reading this.
Well you know in this religion, there is this thing called prayer.
You can choose when and wherever you feel to enact this special communication with the Almighty.
Someone asked me to join in a prayer circle. I humbly declined. I pray on my own time if need be.
They kept trying to pressure me into joining and I kept saying no.
I don't know if out of scorn or what but one person says, "Don't blame us if you go to Hell!"
I had to ask myself. Was that really the Christian thing to do?
I mean really. You're supposed to be bringing people to the light, not scaring them from it.
I then started to think of what Christians all over the country and world do to make this religion unattractive.
Sometimes, it's just crazy how people want to stand for one thing but do something completely opposite. For instance, standing for the greater good but wanting to mock or ridicule someone for not seeing EXACTLY as the way they do.
This is a thought. I'm not hating on Christians. I may be absurd. Maybe just some kid ranting nonsensically.
but isn't that what blogs are for?

Nick Trapasso is Essential
My pick for the XGames Real Street. I like Leo Romero's and Luan Olivieira's but Nick has something about his that I like so, so much.
that kickflip over rail to hippy jump and both back biggy's are my favorite clips. His song is too cool also.
If anyone knows it please help me out.
That''d be the goods

Let me go home, wherever you are.

Their music is so different! I really love their Home song. Its soo nostalgic.
It makes you remember things of that special person, or dream of them for that matter.
I just love the happy go lucky tune of it all.
Kisses from Babylon is also very intriguing. I've been watching the Edward Sharpe series on their youtube. They have created a thought provoking world. Well maybe I'm over stating and over analyzing. It is in fact a different place.
Janglin' is also a happy go lucky song also.
The lead singers Alex and Jade are just too cool Alex sings for another band: Ima Robot. Jade Castrinos met Alex outside a coffee shop. They just got together with a group of friends and made the band. I'm not going to go in detail about how Edward Sharpe became the band name. Just Wiki it!
I haven't listened to all of their music from their album but right now I'm loving every one!
Anyway..
Here's my favorite song by this group! Home!
Yes, I did here this from something skate related but I was singing it one day randomly which made me look it up.

The Asian Elvis

Well.. I would like to start this post off by introducing my favorite skater of all time.
He's the best in the biz. Skates switch, nollie, fakie, tranny, street, freestyle, old school, new school, and everything in between. The dude was pro around the time he was sixteen!
This guy used to be my obsession. I watched his Epicly Later'd interviews extensively. I hoped to learn as much as I could about this enigmatic Asian figure. I watched his part in Bag Of Suck 10 times during school one day. I could probably play that part in my head. I was introduced to his topsy turvy world and I was greeted by groups like the Tilt Mode Army and people like Caswell Berry.
My friend John was the first to show me Jerry Hsu. I remember that day in Geography.. He passed me a CCS book and said here you can have it. I said "who is this mexican dude on the front?"
My friend replied "that's Jerry Hsu! (he pronounced his last name "hush")"
I said " oh that's cool. Guess I'll have to look him up when I get home."
Let me mind you I had only been skating a year. I didn't know anyone in the pro skating world.
I miss those days.
That week my life changed. Jerry Hsu became MY NUMBER ONE idol. I wanted to dress like him, skate like him, heck I thought I could learn Storm Flips! I could barely kickflip back then is the sad part.
I've watched everything Jerry Hsu related I can find on the internet. That includes his 411 magazine parts and fan videos that include him. My fan-out of him has turned down a bit, but Jerry will always be my favorite skater. I really would like to meet him one day. Hopefully, I'll get to an Enjoi demo one day.
Enough about my obsession started. Let me talk a little about mister Hsu.
He was born in San Jose, California. As far as I know he has a brother. He has two loving parents. He started skating at about 10 years old. He got sponsored around the time he was 13 or 14. I think he might've finished high school. I don't think he went to college. He's a photographer on the side. The pictures he takes are hilarious. I think it shows his sarcastic demeanor. He's the type of guy who does what he wants and no one can really stop him. He's does his own thing in today terms. He has flatground wizardry, things I can only dream of doing.
I'm fully anticipating his Stay Gold part in the new Emerica video. Mostly because he has been on a hiatus from skating for the past few years but he is on the comeback people! The break started around when Bag of Suck came out. His ads and coverage started appearing more around some time late last year. So, Hsu fans hold tight cause Jerry got some trick up his sleeves!
Anyways I'm done with the digressing. I'm a Jerry Hsu fan. I'll back him and punch anyone who says Jerry isn't awesome.
Here he is in the latest tiltmode video! glad to say I own this fine piece of entertainment :)
also his b-sides part is better in my opinion. buy the video and check that out if you have the chance.
and here's my favorite part by him! He gets two video posts cause he's Jerry.
check out his blog site, Nazi Gold. It's the ish.
P.S. ish isn't lame. I just don't like cursing.

Future's bright, So I have to wear shades.
So.. It seems i left someone out of my top favorites of all time.

That someone is Chima Ferguson
I've known about Chima since I started skating (I stalked his team page on the volcom site). He was one of my first favorites because of his Let's Live part.
I thought he also had the coolest sponsors: Vans, Volcom, Real.
I mean those are some cool brands! Chima really blew up in the last year. He's freakin' pro now!
When I saw his cover on thrasher, I was like "dude! are you kidding?! Why isn't he pro?!"
I feel stupid asking that question cause every person asks why someone who's AM isn't pro already. I like AM's way better anyway. But, I digress.
When I first looked him up I remember thinking, "Why does this dude wear shades all the time?" It'd always be some kind of Ray Ban type of sunglasses.
Here's a taste of his awesomeness. This is when he got on Real.
I don't know why but I like posting skaters being their selves as opposed to a real video part. It's way more entertaining to watch.
Also check out his Killself part. Filmed it when he was FIFTEEN!
And yes, Chima influences my skating.

No Particular Order of Awesomest
Top Ten Favorite Skaters
1. Jerry Hsu
3. Lucas Puig
4. Billy Marks
5. Ryan Lay
8. Jamie Thomas
9. Sean Malto
10. Leo Romero
These change frequently but these are the guys I always look out for these guys the most. I guess you can call it my favorites of all time. I'm starting to get into this dude named Sierra Fellers. I used to hate his style but I'm really starting to like it. He tweaks everything in a weird way. Levi Brown is supposed to be somewhere in here too. Caswell Berry really kills too. I would really like if my contributor John would put up a post so we can get a perspective on things from his angle. Anyways.. I've been hyped on this video.

Go Skateboarding Day
well i broke my board yesterday..
so i really didn't skate that much on Go Skateboarding Day..
I did some tricks on this crappy kryptonics board.
I spent most of the day looking up this guy.
Yeah he's so awesome. maybe a post about him later? after I've looked up enough info.
I love this holiday though. Even if my town doesn't do anything to celebrate it. I'm going to organize something one day.
And maybe it'll bring skating closer to acceptance. It's still too far gone around here. Well I think I like it like that. It still sucks that everyday someone new is quitting. Skating became my life around three years ago.. wow. three. and I still SUCK. haha no but I love it and want to keep getting better and having fun with whoever is willing to pick up their four wheels of doom.
well anyway check this video out! By some random guys, i really like the edit

Legacy
Everyone wants to be remembered right? I think the difference is how they want to be remembered. I went to a friend youth group and they were discussing about how different people left a mark in history helping God's Kingdom.
Well.. I want to be remembered as follows..
Caring and Understanding(p.s. thats a totally not gay picture.)
Yeah, i'm off my soap box now.
so how do you want to be remembered? Cause I'm sure someone will.
They'd carry your legacy. Just something to think about, I guess.
Here's a dude who left a big legacy and one of the things people identify with. Can you believe its been a year?

Battle at the Berrics 3
I thoroughly enjoyed this game of skate betweent Gilbert and Shane. These guys both kill. Style for miles and can do alot.
Shane's 540 biggy came out of nowhere though. I bet Steve can't even full cab flip so I don't know why he was being so harsh on Shane landing it. All of them were pretty good. I guess he was doing it because he knows that Shane can do better.
Anyways I can watch this battle all day. Peep game
I don;t really pay attention to Lutzka that much other than his part in United By Fate was beast. The last time he was in the battle he beat Lucas Puig - my hero. I was pissed. Needless to say Koston got revenge for team fourstar. I love how Koston starts playing around with Lutzka after he messes up on a heel variation. Koston throws out only heel variations for the next few tricks trying to trip Lutzka up. Hilarious. The last trick, the big spin late flip, was crazy. Go Koston.
Anyway, My bracket has been correct so far. Hopefully I won't slip up the next two battles.
I'm glad to say they're being consistent with them. The last two times, people had to wait like a month to see like one or two battles.

No Stance Dance
another dude i look up to..

He's just casual with everything he does. I don't think he tries half the time. Just smile and 360 flip. AMAZING. I wanted his shoe soo badly when it first came out but my mom wouldn't get them for me or take me somewhere to get them to be more exact..
but anyways..
I love his style. Definately one to open up my eyes and learn switch better.
I read somewhere he said "There's a stance for each spot that makes it more approachable."
thats not exact, but thats how I remember it.
Well check out my favorite part by my man Stefan

here's his website, which provides links to his twitter and his sponors.

Mo Money, Mo Hos, but really what fo?
I got this deck today! Its soo awesome!
Mikemo's Pro model
Its always exciting to get a new deck. It's like Christmas to me.
I think it's the most important part. That and shoes. I can pretty much skate any board, but the shoes and board have to mesh. I'll change shoes like twice before i get a new board.
This board has my seal of approval. A Mikemo post in the future? why not?

Menage à Trois
I've been watching these parts religiously. They are so good. I'm gonna talk about my favorite parts of the video part. You know what I'm talking about. Element's Trio.
First of all, The beginning is HILARIOUS in Tim Tim's. I like how they did the morning routine for the skaters. I love when I see a varial heel in a line. like his first one. its so stylish. He has some awesome wall ride combinations. That huge ollie at over that gap over that platform is gnar. He did a front blunt to fake nosegrind on that rail to ledge! crazy. The switch crook pop over is a sketchy spot. I don't see how he had enough accuracy to lock on and come off without falling in to the rail. I wonder how much effort it took. The 360 flip from rock to rock is probably my favorite trick in here. The music is great. Great Part from Chad Tim Tim
Second is Levi Brown. Once again the beginning is hilarious. I wonder if Levi really gets lost like that. I love how they look at him when he finally shows up at the spot. His trick selection is awesome. Style is awesome. Bones EVERYTHING. Like the smith kickflip out on the ledge going up. straight awesome. Frontside flip over that ledge and bushes is crazyy. ollie manual to ollie over rail?! how do they do htis crap. man, i want to get that good. 50-50 to wallride at the end and then back one over the bench? Levi, you're too good. That switch nosegrind to body varial off doesn't make sense!!! dude is defying my logic. The rock to fakie is stellar. I don't understand what he does around 3:47. He is pushing but is able to do a shove it while he does it.. DEFIES LOGIC. Then again skateboarding has none. Also I really love his Fakie Tre at the end. Also, you can never go wrong with some Janis Joplin. He's one of my faves, also one of my first. You'll hear more about him later. Maybe. This is his latest part. He only has like two or three.
Last but not least, we have Darrell Stanton. Another stylish dude. I love how he is ignoring like he duties at element. Just chilling in the morning without a care in the world. I love how he gives his food away to the manager to go skating and the music cues in. Nice choice musically again. that back lip to back blunt was too awesome. The front blunt on the grey ledge is way gnarly. also did anyone notice Guy Mariano in the background? He got a recent spitfire ad there. pole jam 180 stalefish is also gnarly. Dude needs to sit down somewhere. The switch heel across the grass and rail is freaking nuts! so is the nollie full cab on the rocks! Early grab on that gap is to die for. I want to learn those. Switch 360 flip over that rail was freaking cool! Last but not least to top everything off is the swtich ollie from those stairs into the street at the end. Man this guy can SKATE.
Anyway, I won't review parts like this often unless I just really like them. Which I could review for days. I'm just too lazy. I had a need to because it was new and I keep watching them over and over.
Element might not be everyone's favorite but they did a good job on this!
Congrats to the skaters!!
by the way these parts probably came from sole, the video for the element shoe team. The shoe company kind of folded and they scrapped the video. But we got this! for free! check out the element podcast to download it!

Open the Bottle
You know..
well actually you probably don't. This is what i THINK.
It's nice to just talk to your friends. It doesn't have to be planned or anything. Just go out and grab a bite to eat and say whats on your mind lately. You'll be a lot more happier knowing you can just talk to, well, talk. You need to listen to what your friends say because you might have that connection and that you two are on the same frequency. You'll probably go to bed less stressed if you don't keep everything bottled up. If you do keep it bottled, you'll appear like this to people. So sit back. Just Listen. Talk for a bit. Get on the same page as one of your friends and start to appreciate the finer things in life.

in the mean time here's a good laugh..
RIP Gary.
Dueces Wild
well because of the previous entry i thought i might make another entry on Sean Malto

Another skater who influences me.

Well a little backstory on my man Malto.
He's from Kansas City, Missouri. Dropped out in 10th grade to skate full time. His parents aren't together but they are still cool (glares at my parents). even bought a house for his mom to live in for cripe sakes! He went pro for Girl Skateboards around 2 or 3 years ago. Has had 4 covers. tons of online footage, youtube him.
He seems to be an all around nice guy and knows how to have fun. in almost EVERY SINGLE PICTURE he SMILES while doing the trick! If that ain't a zen state of mind while knowing you could hurt yourself at the end of a trick, I don't know what is.
anyway. peep game on his latest video part.

Skating by the seashore (BANNED)
I saw this posted on twitter by Josiah Gatlyn, a skateboarder who keeps up on his news.
this is TOO hilarious
(i would embed the video but it causes problems for people who view this in internet explorer)
now where did they get this footage of my man Malto?
well it goes back to him and his group of friends that live in a skate house called the Done House.
A few months ago they decided to take a little road trip and i guess decided to film an ad for Sean Malto's truck company Thunder.
Here's the ad they keep on showing.
I'm all for city restoration but a park being a heaven? hardly. they're fun and all but I think its more fun to look for other places to skate and get creative.
It's nice of them to give a free pass to the park. But doesn't that insinuate that you have to PAY for the park? It's probably cheaper to roam the streets. Plus that spot is BEAUTIFUL. After you're done skating you can go chill on the beach.
They say its for pedestrians only, but skaters are pedestrians also. duh.
Malto and his friends have a blog. Check it in your spare time. Tons of fun coming from these dudes.

An American Hero

The American Dream.. The thing that breaks all limits and makes dreams come true
Jamie Thomas
Skateboader

I'll be making more posts about skaters who influence my way of thinking, I thought I'd start with the dude who puts my dream of living with skating close to me
